  • Katy was a huge help in upgrading our kitchen and building out our main living room. We needed to add in an island and upgrade a few features to match the existing kitchen as well as add a functional seating area nearby. She listened to our preferences and was able to visualize the room for us using a 3D rendering so we knew what everything would look like prior to starting. KATY MCNABB
PRINCIPAL DESIGNER AND FOUNDER

Katy McNabb founded Rewind Design Studio in 2020. As a Registered Interior Designer with a Bachelor of Interior Design from Ryerson School of Interior Design, Katy prides herself in maintaining her status as a registered ARIDO Interior Designer, Association of Registered Interior Designer's of Ontario, as well as NCIDQ certification through National Council of Interior Design Qualification. In 2020 Katy turned her passion for history and design into an amazing project, a podcast called Rewind Design, which focuses not only on the history and cottage family stories around the Georgian Bay area but also sustainable design practices along the shores of Cottage Country. When she is not working on design projects with her clients, you can find her documenting the Georgian Bay shores with her drone and looking for the next inspiring story for her podcast.

THIS WEEK’S FEATURED EPISODE

Rewind Design Studio was born out of a deep appreciation for Georgian Bay and its environment. Development of Cottage Country is inevitable; However, Rewind Design Studio challenges the building sector to rethink standard building practices to put the environment first.

PODCAST

Two years ago, Katy launched a podcast centered on the history of cottage country. Recognizing the importance of understanding the area where she lives and works, she conducted numerous interviews with local cottage owners, diving into their generational cottage narratives. She had the opportunity to visit numerous Georgian Bay cottages, which made her acutely aware of the environmental impact of cottaging.

This realization led her to create a second season of the podcast, focusing on conversations with leading experts in sustainable design, including architects, builders, designers, and landscapers. The goal of the second season was to inspire cottage owners to embrace simple, yet effective sustainable design practices when renovating or constructing new cottages.

She was honored to receive a bursary from the Georgian Bay Land Trust to support the production of the podcast's second season.
